About Me
I'm Julian Lobbes, a software engineer from Germany with 8 years of experience in IT and a passion for computers going back as far as I can remember. Currently based in London, I'm working as an independent freelancer.
Starting my career at an IT Helpdesk, I quickly found a fascination for Linux and computer networking. Falling down the rabbit hole, I started self-hosting applications in my homelab and working as a System Administrator. During my Computer Science degree, my focus shifted towards web development and software engineering, which I've been practising passionately ever since.
I love board sports (Skateboard, Snowboard, Surfboard) and listening to good - or making (less good) - music, with a soft spot for Drum&Bass.

A web framework used to build RESTful APIs in python. Used by Uber and Netflix among many others.
FastAPI
A versatile frontend framework for JavaScript, used in building dynamic user interfaces for websites.
Vue.js
A modern, high-performance full stack web framework based on Vue.js.
Nuxt
A versatile web microframework for python. Used by Reddit, Airbnb, and LinkedIn among many others.
flask
A CSS framework used to increase development speed. Used by GitHub, Netflix and Firefox among many others.

A set of software-tooling used for OS-level virtualisation. Makes development and deployment of software a lot easier.
Docker
A suite of software tools enabling large scale software provisioning, configuration management and application deployment.
Ansible
A fast, extensible and modern web server and reverse proxy written in Go.
Caddy
The most widely-used web server software in the world. Doubles as a reverse proxy and HTTP load balancer.
Nginx
A modern, cloud-centric HTTP reverse proxy and load balancer with special focus on interfacing with containerised services.
Traefik Proxy
A widely used suite of software related to SQL database implementation.
PostgreSQL
The most widely-used DNS server software in the world.

An industry-standard application protocol used in managing and accessing directory information services on a network.
